Meet Our Dentists
St. Joseph Dentist – Dr. Charles Howenstine
Dr. Howenstine graduated with honors from Marquette University School of Dentistry. He has practiced in Kimberly, Wisconsin with Midwest Dental. He maintains membership in the American Dental Association and the Michigan Dental Association.
In order to provide the best possible treatment for his patients Dr. Howenstine regularly attends continuing education courses. He comes from a long line of dental professionals, with his grandfather, uncle, and father being dentists and his mother a hygienist.
Dr. Howenstine and his wife Ana reside in Stevensville with their three children, Caroline, James, and Mary.
In his free time Dr. Howenstine enjoys watching sports, working on cars, hunting, technology, and fitness. He regularly competes in running races in the summer and cross country ski races in the winter.
St. Joseph Dentist – Dr. Theresa Burt
Dr. Burt grew up in the Chicago area and graduated from University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. She served in the US Navy Dental Corps until August, 2016. Prior to her active duty service, Dr. Burt was staff dentist at the VINA Community Dental Center in Brighton, Michigan. She has been married to her husband James for 10 years and they have four children, Avery, Evelyn, Lydia, and Whitney.
St. Joseph Dentist – Dr. Stephanie Grider
Dr. Grider is originally from the south suburbs of Chicago, but her family has been coming to the SW Michigan area for over 50 years. Having always wanted to be a dentist, she grew up in her father’s small private dental practice on the south side. She graduated with her DMD from the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in Alton, Illinois. After living and practicing for a number of years in northern Illinois, she and her husband are excited to no longer view SW Michigan as just a weekend escape, but rather, as their permanent home.
After meeting Dr. Howenstine, Dr. Grider chose to practice here at St. Joseph Dentistry because of a shared belief in providing relationship-based, comprehensive care that is tailored to fit into the lives of her patients. She practices general family dentistry including restorative, implant and cosmetic dentistry. She especially enjoys working with kids. Committed to providing the best care possible for her patients, Dr. Grider completes over forty hours of continuing education per year, and has taken postdoctoral courses in prosthodontics, oral surgery, and implants.
Dr. Grider especially enjoys singing and performing whether it be solo with her guitar, with a community choir, or local musical theater. Her hobbies include photography, biking, skiing, backpacking, hiking, and traveling. Dr. Grider is a newlywed and lives with her husband in New Buffalo with their two cats.
Meet the St Joseph Dentistry Team:
Becky joined the St. Joseph Dentistry team in 2017, when her & her husband returned to their hometown of St. Joseph. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences. Becky and her husband welcomed their first child in May 2019. Her hobbies include playing soccer and traveling. She loves being back in Southwest Michigan and spending time with family and friends.
Jake graduated from Bridgman High School in 2012. He then went onto Ferris State University where he received an Associate degree in Dental Hygiene. Jake has been with our office since September 2016. In his free time, he enjoys camping, boating, and spending time with family and friends.
Kathy is a graduate from Kalamazoo Valley Community College and started her career in Dental Hygiene in 1985 with Dr. Jeffrey Schmidt. She received her local anesthesia license in October 2017 through Ferris State University. She has been working with Dr. Howenstine since June 2012 when he took over the practice.
Sharon was born and raised in St. Joseph. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1981. Sharon attended Lake Michigan College in 1983 and received an Associate degree in Dental Assisting. She also attended Kellogg Community College in 1999 and received an Associate degree in Dental Hygiene. She is licensed in Local Anesthesia. Before joining St. Joseph Dentistry in 2016, she worked for Dr. Harvey Johnson since 1984. She is married with 2 grown children, enjoys fishing on Lake Michigan during the summer, home remodeling, and traveling. She loves to stay busy!
Allison graduated from Kalamazoo Valley Community College, where she received her associates degree in Dental Hygiene. Allison is licensed in local anesthesia and nitrous oxide. She has been with the St. Joseph Dentistry team since 2018.
Nikki has been a Dental Assistant for about 18 years. She attended the Dental Assisting program at Lake Michigan College. Her biggest reward in assisting is when the patients leave with a smile on their face. Her and her husband have 3 children who keep them very busy with band, choir, and Varsity football. Nikki is also a proud mom of an Army Veteran.
Brandi is from Eau Claire, Michigan and currently resides in Sister Lakes. She has worked as a dental assistant for over 20 years and is proficient in all aspects of dentistry; including our in-house laboratory work. Brandi spends much of her time volunteering with her two sons, A.J and Nate at their local church, The Church Keeler. In addition to running the foodbank and clothing closet at her church, she volunteers at Hands Up Food Ministry in Benton Harbor.
Jessica graduated from Ross Medical Education Center for Dental Assisting. She has been assisting for 8 years. Jessica is married and has one child. She enjoys reading and swimming in her free time.
Diane graduated from River Valley High School and the Dental Assisting program at Lake Michigan College earning an Associate Degree along with her CDA/RDA credentials. She has 36 years experience as a Dental Assistant. Diane has 2 adult sons and 1 grandson. She enjoys time with family & friends, reading, kayaking, golf, swimming, and just about anything outdoors.
Brenda graduated from Lake Michigan College’s Dental Assisting program and has been working as a Dental Assistant for 10 years. During the week she works in an oral surgery office and works here with us at St. Joseph Dentistry on Saturdays.
Madison is from Niles, Michigan. She graduated from South Bend, Indiana University in 2015 – where she also played basketball. Madison enjoys spending time with her daughter and her family. In her free time she coaches travel basketball.
Karen is from St. Joseph Michigan and has lived in the area her entire life. She and her husband Gary have six grandchildren. Karen worked previously for Whirlpool before leaving to raise her family. When the children entered school she worked as the school secretary at Christ Lutheran School, and soon after she was offered a full time job at the YMCA. Karen worked for the YMCA for 29 years before coming to St. Joseph Dentistry. Karen loves being involved with her church, Lakeshore Christian Church . She enjoys working outside in her yard, vacationing, and above all spoiling her grandchildren!
Adrianna is native to the Southwest Michigan area and has been with us since 2017. She graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science. During her time at WMU she also earned her certifications in Reiki through an independent study. Adrianna enjoys spending time with her family & friends, adventuring outdoors with her dog Cedar, reading, and practicing yoga.
Julie graduated with an associate of Arts Degree from Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee Wisconsin. She continued her education at Fox Valley Tech in Appleton Wisconsin where she received her Dental Assisting Degree. She became certified in 1986 and has been working in various dental capacities since. Julie grew up on a farm in the Three Oaks area and has lived in Southwest Michigan most of her life. In her spare time she enjoys working in stained glass, playing the piano, doing craft projects, and walking/playing with her German Shepherd, Maxx.
Jeanese has lived in southwest Michigan her entire life. She and her husband, Michael, live on a small family owned blueberry farm where they raised their six children, Nicolle, Dylan, Jarred, Mathew, Sabrina and Andrew. They are also the proud grandparents of grandson, Jaxon. Jeanese enjoys spending free time with her family and friends, going to concerts, sporting events, and camping. She keeps active by cardio drumming and working out with friends.
