Meet Our Dentist
St. Joseph Dentist – Dr. Charles Howenstine
Dr. Howenstine graduated with honors from Marquette University School of Dentistry. He has practiced in Kimberly, Wisconsin with Midwest Dental. He maintains membership in the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
In order to provide the best possible treatment for his patients Dr. Howenstine regularly attends continuing education courses. He comes from a long line of dental professionals, with his grandfather, uncle, and father being dentists and his mother a hygienist.
Dr. Howenstine and his wife Ana reside in Stevensville with their three children, Caroline, James, and Mary.
In his free time Dr. Howenstine enjoys watching sports, working on cars, hunting, technology, and fitness. He regularly competes in running races in the summer and cross country ski races in the winter.
St. Joseph Dentist – Dr. Burt
Dr. Burt grew up in the Chicago area and graduated from University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. She served in the US Navy Dental Corps until August, 2016. Prior to her active duty service, Dr.
Burt was staff dentist at the VINA Community Dental Center in Brighton, Michigan. She has been married to her husband James for 10 years and they have four children, Avery, Evelyn, Lydia, and Whitney.
Meet the Howenstine Dental Team:
Becky was raised in St Joseph, Michigan and has recently moved back to the area with her husband Ben. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene at the Massachusetts college of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She joined our team in March 2017.
Jake graduated from Bridgman High School in 2012. He then went onto Ferris State University where he received an Associate degree in Dental Hygiene. Jake has been with our office since September 2016. In his free time, he enjoys camping, boating, and spending time with family and friends.
Kathy is a graduate from Kalamazoo Valley Community College and started her career in Dental Hygiene in 1985 with Dr. Jeffrey Schmidt. She has been working with Dr. Howenstine since June 2012 when he took over the practice.
Sharon was born and raised in St. Joseph. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1981. Sharon attended Lake Michigan College in 1983 and received an Associate degree in Dental Assisting. She also attended Kellogg Community College in 1999 and received an Associate degree in Dental Hygiene. She is licensed in Local Anesthesia. Before joining St. Joseph Dentistry in 2016, she worked for Dr. Harvey Johnson since 1984. She is married with 2 grown children and is currently enjoying the empty nest.
Diane was born in Muskegon, Michigan. She grew up here and graduated in the top ten of her class from River Valley High School. Sher graduated in 1983 from Lake Michigan College with an associate’s degree majoring in Dental Assisting. Diane also went on to receive her state license (R.D.A.) and national certification (C.D.A.). She worked with Dr. Harvey Johnson, D.D.S. for 33 until his retirement in August, 2016. Diane then joined our team at St. Joseph Dentistry. Diane has two grown sons and will be a first-time grandma in September, 2017. She enjoys the outdoors and is always up for a new adventure.
Kim was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan but raised in San Diego, California. She moved back to Michigan in 1998 after graduating from Juniperu Serra High School. Kim began the dental program at Lake Michigan College in 2012. She was the recipient of the Lakeland Valley Dental Society’s scholarshim and graduated with Honors in May of 2016 with an associate’s degree in Applied Science and Dental Assisting. Kim is a proud mom to her three kids L.J., Amunique, and Aunjunae.
Nikki is from San Diego, California and currently resides in Berrien Springs, Michigan with her husband Rob. She has 16 years of dental assisting experience and enjoys doing Zoom chairside whitening. Nikki is a proud Army mom to her eldest son Ryan. In her spare time Nikki loves watching her daughter Bella dance; she also spends a lot of her weekends on the baseball field with her son, Noah who is on a travel team.
Brandi is from Eau Claire, Michigan and currently resides in Sister Lakes. She has worked as a dental assistant for over 20 years and is proficient in all aspects of dentistry; including our in-house laboratory work. Brandi spends much of her time volunteering with her two sons, A.J and Nate at their local church, The Church Keeler. In addition to running the foodbank and clothing closet at her church, she volunteers at Hands Up Food Ministry in Benton Harbor.
Friday moved to St. Joseph from Tempe, Arizona almost 2 years ago. She has ten years scheduling experience, the last year as scheduling coordinator at St. Joseph Dentistry. Friday love’s working with patients. In her spare time Friday enjoys being near the lake with her two red headed boys, Scott and Colt.
Noelle is our receptionist and the first friendly face you see when you walk into our office. She is new to our office as of December 2016 and is a recent graduate from Western Michigan University. Noelle obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Ceramics from WMU in December and is fascinated with exploring new areas of the dental field. Noelle is a Michigan native and enjoys spending time out on the Great Lakes.
Jackie is our treatment coordinator. She can answer your questions about treatment, how to pay for treatment or when to schedule treatment. She is from Indiana and moved to St. Joseph with her family 14 years ago. Jackie has been a part of our dental team for three years and had worked for orthodontic practices in Stevensville, MI and Kokomo, IN. She has BA degrees from Ball State University in Public Relations and Journalism. She resides in St. Joseph with her husband, Steve, their two children and their Bischon Frise, Peyton.
Karen is from St. Joseph, Michigan and has lived in the area her entire life. She and her husband Gary have three children and soon to be five grandchildren. Karen worked previously for Whirlpool before leaving to raise her family. When the children entered school she worked as the school secretary at Christ Lutheran School, and soon after she was offered a full time job at the YMCA. Karen worked for the YMCA for 29 years before coming to St. Joseph Dentistry. Karen is involved at Peace Lutheran Church on the Alter Guild, helps with the grounds committee, and is currently the Vice President of the church council. She enjoys working outside in her yard, vacationing, and above all spoiling her grandchildren!
